The 8000 by Newport is a Modular Controller Mainframe designed to offer advanced system control and data collection capabilities. Equipped with a sophisticated microprocessor, this controller stands out with its exceptional performance. The 8000 features four fully isolated bays, accommodating a range of modules and is specifically optimized for various laser diode applications, requiring multiple temperature controllers and current sources. These applications include multiple beam and individually addressed laser diodes, multiple laser diode pumped fiber amplifiers, and 2D vertical cavity surface emitting laser diode arrays.
The 8000 mainframe employs intelligent technology to automatically detect and identify the modules installed in each bay. The system configuration is conveniently displayed on the large LCD screen, providing users with a clear overview. This controller boasts advanced 16-bit technology, ensuring precise measurement and control capabilities. The analog and digital signal isolation designs further enhance accuracy. For seamless data collection and remote control, the 8000 comes with RS-232C and GPIB/IEEE-488.2 interfaces. Moreover, compatibility with LabVIEW drivers streamlines integration with existing systems.
The 8000 facilitates comprehensive laser diode characterization using 8500 modules and complete TE cooler characterization using 8350 modules. The unit can be configured to operate at various nominal line voltages, such as 100, 120, 220, or 240 VAC. Additionally, its front legs can be extended to improve the user's viewing experience of the LED displays. Simply place the controller on a stable base and rotate the legs downward until they lock into position. The front panel of the 8000 is designed for user-friendliness and provides an array of intuitive controls. These include a power on/off switch, a laser enable on/off switch, a laser active LED indicator, display soft keys, a MASTER key, cursor control keys, numerical keys, a MENU key, a FUNCTION key, a CLEAR key, an ENTER key, and a knob.
The 8000 performs a self-test to verify seamless communication between its hardware and software when powering on. If any issues are detected, an error message promptly alerts the user. A graphical display on the 8000 conveys crucial information about the system's current state. The display is divided into four main elements: soft key labels, editable data fields, non-editable data fields, and static fields. Soft key labels indicate the corresponding action when pressed, while editable data fields allow users to adjust module and system settings, with various display states for focused, focused and editing, non-focused, and read-only data. Non-editable data fields show essential read-back information, such as temperature and laser current. Static fields display elements that remain unchanged over time.
