The 8783 by Newport is a GuideStar II Laser Controller designed to seamlessly integrate with the GuideStar II Laser Stabilization System, offering a sophisticated solution for intricate laser system alignment. Through precise compensation of position drift and beam pointing, this system ensures the utmost accuracy and stability in laser applications. The 8783 functions both as a USB hub for streamlined communication with cameras and a multiplexed Picomotor driver for generating drive signals for up to four motors. By establishing a USB connection to the user's host computer, the controller facilitates seamless interaction with the GuideStar II software. This software empowers users to conveniently access and analyze beam position data and comprehensive beam profiles, facilitating storage and traceability.

Upon integration with a computer, the 8783 Laser Controller provides intuitive settings menus, granting users complete command over a diverse range of camera and beam stabilization parameters. These parameters encompass comprehensive control of target size and location for each camera, loop gain optimization to enhance control loop performance, and dynamic camera exposure time ratios of up to 1000:1. Central to the stabilization system's performance are the Picomotor actuated mirrors, renowned for their exceptional precision and inherent stability. These mirrors play a pivotal role in delivering high-precision control, allowing for remarkable control over the laser beam's four degrees of freedom: profile, pointing, position, and rotation. The system employs two miniature cameras to capture and store critical profile, pointing, and position information. Backed by intelligent control algorithms, the dedicated software effortlessly ensures optimal performance while maintaining user-friendly operations. Crucially, the patented control algorithm provides real-time feedback to the mirrors, enabling complete correction of laser beam position in both the X and Y axes, as well as rotation about both axes.
