The 6428 by Newport is a Vidia-Swept Tunable Laser Source, designed to optimize measurement efficiency and enhance throughput and yield. This state-of-the-art laser source is engineered to deliver rapid and precise measurements of Demuxes, Muxes, interleavers, and other passive components in less than 1 second. Real-time monitoring allows immediate assessment of performance changes during component manufacturing, with visual updates at a maximum rate of 2 Hz. Thanks to its exceptional reliability, resolution, and speed, the 6428 significantly reduces the yield time of a manufacturing line. The integration of this laser source into a swept-wavelength system enables seamless sweeping of a source through a desired wavelength range at a constant speed.
The 6428 boasts a StableWave cavity configuration, built on a modified Littman-Metcalf design. This configuration ensures true single-mode operation and enables mode hop-free tuning over wide wavelength ranges, ensuring precise and consistent results. The 6428 operates in four distinct modes: interactive step-scan mode, automated step-scan mode, swept-scan mode for swift linear scans between specific start and stop wavelengths, and track mode for stable operation at a set wavelength. In step-scan modes, the laser dwells at evenly spaced wavelengths during the scanning process. Users have the flexibility to operate the laser source manually using the front-panel controls or remotely through a computer interface, adding convenience and versatility to the device's functionality. For safety measures, the laser source is equipped with a safety interlock connector at the back, ensuring that light emission is contingent on the closure of the interlock circuit.
