The AIC-3 by Newport is an Elite3 Active Isolation System Controller, accompanied by specialized modules meticulously designed for optimized applications in both active and passive vibration isolation. This system incorporates geophones that proficiently detect isolator module movements along the vertical axis. The resulting velocity signal is subject to compensation based on frequency through a DSP-based controller. Subsequently, this compensated signal is channeled via a high-voltage amplifier to a piezo-electric actuator. The AIC-3 boasts a peak gain at approximately 20 Hz. Beyond the 28 Hz threshold, where ground vibration frequency escalates, the elastomer isolator notably augments isolation capabilities with a decline rate of -40 dB per decade.

One of the paramount attributes of the AIC-3 is its imperviousness to oscillations stemming from mechanical resonances present in the payload. The elastomer isolator adeptly sieves out a significant portion of onboard vibrations before they are even detected by the geophone. The system maintains vertical rigidity for the isolated payload, rendering it minimally responsive to shifts in the center of gravity. This stability remains consistent during and after stage movement. The AIC-3 provides an economically viable isolation solution, catering adeptly to applications where sensitivity to vertical vibrations supersedes that of horizontal vibrations. Notably, the system integrates a passive damped pendulum system operating at 1 Hz within the horizontal plane for isolation purposes. Additionally, it incorporates an electronically controlled docking feature, ideally suited for industrial settings involving the robotic transfer of components from a non-isolated base to isolated fabrication or inspection stations.
