The Newport 350B is a Thermoelectric Temperature Controller, designed to precisely regulate the temperature of a thermo-electric (TE) cooler in a closed-loop system, using a variety of temperature sensors for accurate feedback. Operating in three selectable modes - constant ITE (TE cooler), constant T (thermistors), and constant R (thermistor), the 350B can deliver a maximum output power of 55 watts, ensuring efficient and effective temperature control.

It comes equipped with a preset display, allowing users to adjust the operating setpoint before activating the output. The 350B offers a wide range of TEC temperatures, spanning from -50 to +150°C, catering to various temperature requirements. The controller's PID control circuitry ensures stable and quiet output current results, with the flexibility to adjust settings through the LDD/TEC Application software or user-developed programs integrated into the controller. The 350B incorporates an ITE current limit setting, providing protection to TE coolers from damage, irrespective of the chosen operating mode. The compatibility with thermistors enables the controller to display temperature readings in °C as an option. To facilitate interface with a PC, the controller features a USB 2.0, 1.0, or 1.1 interface and supports LabVIEW drivers. Remote operation of all instrument functions is made possible by the thoughtful design of the controller, ensuring convenient usage. When optimizing the 350B's performance, several critical factors need to be taken into consideration, including the selection and proper mounting of the temperature sensor and module heat sink, the appropriate thermistor selection to cover the desired temperature range of operation, and the choice of the proper TE module to efficiently remove heat dissipated by the laser diode or other devices.
