The 818-UV/DB by Newport is a high-quality, low-power UV-Enhanced Silicon Photodetector that offers exceptional performance and versatility. Equipped with a removable, threaded OD3 attenuator, this photodetector ensures accurate calibration using NIST-traceable standards and high-precision equipment. The photodetector comes with a detachable DB15 calibration module, allowing for easy integration with compatible current power meters. For fiber power measurement that is seamless, an optional screw-in fiber-optic adapter can be utilized.

Featuring a generous 10.3 mm clear aperture with cross hair, the 818-UV/DB enhances detector alignment to the input optical beam, ensuring exceptional accuracy and preventing detector overfilling. In addition, the 818-UV/DB conveniently stores essential information such as calibration data, model number, serial number, and calibration date, streamlining operational efficiency. For optimal signal-to-noise ratio, the OD3 attenuator can be easily removed from the detector head when the input power falls below 0.1 mW within the 200 nm - 400 nm wavelength range. This allows users to maximize the sensitivity of the photodetector under these specific conditions.

The 818-UV/DB is equipped with a BNC connector that supports a removable calibration mode. This connector extends the capabilities of the photodetector by enabling direct connection to a lock-in amplifier and an ammeter. Furthermore, the BNC connector facilitates easy viewing of the detector output on an oscilloscope when connected to a current-to-voltage preamplifier. For added convenience, another BNC cable can be connected in order to extend the cable’s length. The photodetector incorporates a DB15-style calibration module that directly interfaces with compatible current power meters, providing a seamless measurement experience. Moreover, the 818-UV/DB can be converted to measure optical power from bare optical or connectorized fibers. It includes a specially designed bare fiber holder and adapter mount, ensuring secure and damage-free fixation of 250-µm bare fibers.
