The FSM-CD300B by Newport is a Fast Steering Controller/Driver equipped with cutting-edge fast steering mirror technology. This versatile device finds application in various sophisticated imaging systems, laser free-space communication for tracking optical receivers, real-time confocal microscopy by scanning laser beams, precision laser micro-machining by tracking workpieces, and beam stabilization tasks. The operational principle of the FSM-CD300B involves establishing a feedback interface between angle position sensors and drivers that supply current to voice coils, thereby enabling precise tilting and tipping of the mirror assembly.
The FSM-CD300B has a universal power supply, accommodating input voltages ranging from 100 V to 240 V, at 50/60 Hz, while featuring a standard power cord interface for easy connectivity. The FSM-CD300B incorporates a fuse block located above the power supply, which utilizes two 5 x 20 mm slow-blow glass fuses, rated at 2.5 A, 250 VAC. Electrical connection with the mirror head is established through a 15-pin D-connector terminated cable attached to the connector on the back of the mirror head. A 25-pin D-connector on the front provides access to key diagnostic and control parameters from the control board. Open Loop mode allows users to develop their own control systems, leveraging the device purely as an amplifier/driver that converts voltage signals to current to drive coils.
The FSM-CD300B is suitable for indoor operation in an ambient temperature range of 0°C to 35°C. The device is equipped with a cooling fan that circulates air through both sides and expels it through the back to prevent overheating. Proper clearance around the sides and back of the unit is essential to ensure adequate airflow. The FSM-CD300B offers three distinct modes of operation to cater to various requirements. Firstly, the Eternal Sensor Feedback Control mode permits external sensor position feedback, like lateral effect cell or quad cell, enabling precise laser beam locking onto a target, such as the center of a quad cell. Secondly, the Internal Control mode utilizes a quad cell sensor integrated into the mirror head, feeding the error signal back into the device through a compatible 15-pin, 3-foot interface cable.
